How the 3-4-4-3 custody schedule works
| Mon | Tue | Wed | Thu | Fri | Sat | Sun | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | A | A | A | B | B | B | B |
| Week 2 | A | A | A | A | B | B | B |
In this calendar the cycle starts on Monday: Parent A has Monday to Wednesday in week 1 and Monday to Thursday in week 2; Parent B has the rest. Each parent has seven overnights every two weeks. Because the cycle starts on Monday, Parent B has Friday to Sunday every week. If you want to share weekends, a 2-2-5-5 or alternating-weeks schedule does that.
Pros and cons
- Fewer exchanges than 2-2-3. Four every two weeks.
- Never more than four days apart. A middle ground between 2-2-3 and alternating weeks.
- Weekends are not shared here. With a Monday start, one parent always has the weekend.
- Thursday swaps sides. The middle day changes every week, so plan Thursday activities with both parents.
Holidays and other schedules
Holidays and school breaks usually override the regular schedule. Set them on the holiday custody schedule page and they show up here. Compare patterns on the custody calendar, or see the 2-2-5-5, 2-2-3, 3-4-4-3 and week on, week off pages.
